    Şili midyesi, Güney Pasifik’ten Güney Atlantik’e ve Antarktik Okyanusu’nda; kumda, kilde ve kayalık zeminlerde, 0 ila 100 metre derinlikte bulunur. 18 santimetreye kadar büyüyebilir.
    Çiftçiliğinin yapılmasının sonuçları önemsiz kabul edilir. Endemik bir tür olduğu ve larvaları doğal ortamlarından toplandığı için istenmeyen yayılım riski taşımaz. Sorumluluk sahibi çiftçilik yöntemleri sayesinde Şili’deki birçok midye çiftliği ASC sertifikası almıştır. Çiftçilik düzenlemeleri oldukça başa-rılı kabul edilir.
